Dominado por la ambición y el afán de aventuras, el joven Robinson Crusoe abandona su hogar paterno y, tras una serie de peligrosas peripecias e infortunios, logra convertirse en un rico hacendado en Brasil. Pero su talante inquieto y el deseo de hacer un buen negocio le llevan a embarcarse una vez más y, durante la accidentada travesía, Crusoe naufraga en una isla desierta en la que transcurrirá buena parte de su existencia.
